10 things you can not miss in Spanish class

1. Role-play:

It may be in pairs, threes, four participants. The teacher should prepare different situations and different roles for these situations. For example: In the practice of a topic as "restaurant" roles can be a partner and a waiter. Each participant will give his role with its slogan, the latter shall be secret, at first, for the rest of the students. References can be: She wants to diet and not eat anything greasy and the waiter asks much about calories and ingredients of each dish. The husband wants to eat a big meal full of calories and luxuries to celebrate his promotion at work. The waiter comes to make two turns in a row, is very tired and patience .... Well, I can invent any number of situations in different contexts and with different goals for learning any grammatical topic.

2. Guessing games:

The game's character par excellence. In two or three large groups, a participant comes forward. His teammates have to guess which character he played (the student can take the front of the character's personality to guess and answer in the first person as if the character himself). The student must answer the front only yes or no. Another variant is that you can not use the words yes, no, black and white and the opposing group will try to use them to disqualify themselves. Come in handy for the practice of personal characteristics, verb to be, present indicative conjugation. You can also guess the name of movies, countries, etc..

3. Bingo:

The bingos are great and very funny. I can use to practice vocabulary, verbs present, numbers, verb have.

That does require a lot of preparation of material by the teacher.

Material: boards should be prepared (the amount required to distribute one per student or one per couple). Each board is divided into 12 or more pictures which have a verb, drawing, figure (depending on what you want to practice). Each board will be different. On the other hand, prepare cards with each of the figures appearing on the board.

Not explain how to play bingo and I guess everyone knows. I can make changes, as the person who has to figure out, I should say a sentence using it, or you have to conjugate the verb in the table, and so on.

It is important to note that bingos tend to have a long duration and must be considered when making this general programming.

4. Goose Games

I call them snakes and ladders, so called because in my childhood. These are the boards that have a path divided into boxes, where participants must pass to reach the goal. In several fields there is a slogan that must be met to continue. Here again the teacher must be creative and spend some time in preparation. You also need dice and soldiers to advance. The number of boards depends on the number of students. I make groups of up to 4 students for this game. You can practice many issues. And much to the conditional use, the past and prepositions. I put in special boxes slogans such as account as was your best childhood friend or a family story or make the conjugation of the verb to be in Pret. Indefinite. With the simple conditional: what country would you like to travel, what they take to a desert island, and so on. Add fields to: miss a turn, advances two more ....

5. Performances

They are of all kinds. The teacher should give the order. Sometimes the reference can be chosen by the students and the teacher only need to specify some guidelines.

There are exercises for Spanish class focused on expression, highly motivated and have the advantage that relate to the body language, emotions.

They may have students act out a poem, a song, TV show, etc..

Some ideas are: - a cooking stage (vocabulary comes in handy for food and for the imperative). - The student must present the weather for tomorrow (future climate and imperfect vocabulary). - Can be given a sentence and then the students must prepare the scene (a man and a woman face in the street, two old friends meet after 10 years not to be, etc.).

One activity that I really like and is fun: it gives students a short text, a short story in first person, for example, the other day I went to the lawyer's office and the elevator stopped between floors 20 and 21. In the elevator had .... The motto is that every student should have the same story to another imaginary person (her son, his colleagues, his wife, his mistress, his psychologist). Each student must rewrite the text and then staging, according to the person you have touched.

Ojo, role play and drama are not for all students and groups. Be careful and make sure that no student is uncomfortable with this type of activity.

6. Language games:

These can range from traditional games, tongue twisters, riddles, words strung, to other more modern proposals: mind games, logic, hobbies, etc.. You can find many online and edit them.

For example with riddles, many times I give them one or two to meet each student or pair and then ask them to make guesses for the other students to solve. Always take into account the subject I am teaching or grammatical structure. They are very good relative pronouns, colors, adjectives, verbs in the present, and so on.

Sometimes playing with the dictionary, ask students to find a word that does not know and write their meaning (one), but two meanings invented by them. Then the rest of the partners must guess what approach is correct.

7. Puzzle:

I can ask to solve the puzzle of a text that I have broken, a cartoon or comics (I can also ask them to write the history of comics). Again, the material I can find on the Internet and modify it.

8. Brainstorming:

Such exercises in the class of ELE require the teacher to bring to class something to serve as a trigger stimulus. This can be very diverse: a picture, a word, sound, music and more. Students need to bring ideas, data or information from the stimulus. Some exercises I do: make free associations with a word and build a story from a character in a photo, a drawing, describe and interpret a painting, a song, a poem.

9. Games with newspapers

There are many activities and games that can be done with newspapers. It is true that students must have an intermediate level, but Remember, students should not know all the words and all the grammatical structures that appear in them in order to understand the articles.

A free labor, deliver newspapers or magazines, students should cut and paste words to find and rewrite a new article.

The seven words in groups is dealt to each student an article to be read and then extract seven words that best represent the story told there. The students will go to another group these words and with them, this second group must write a new article (should include mandatory words) and invent a title. Finally, each group reads a new article and it will speak the initial article. It will also see if these two match or come close. The event is super fun.

Just reading and discussion: I think it's very important to read in class today, especially from Spain or Latin America. I usually start my classes (warm climate) with one or two articles and discussion with students on the subject, which leads to great philosophical debates beyond the article read.

10. Games run

It's great to play together. There are a lot of games in a circle. Just think of our childhood and adapted for Spanish class.

The phone cracked or broken.

String of words: eg say words that have to do with the kitchen, without repetition, repeating or do not know what to say, are out.

A chain story: the teacher begins with a sentence, then each student must add a word to the student of history and continue following the last word of previous student. For example: In a distant city had .... The next student had a dog ... .... Another student who had a very long tail ....

Obviously that requires adapting the first sentence and tenses learned with students. Really leave a lot of fun and original stories.

Being and Being run or Interrogative: Students in a circle, they should ask the right mate a question with the verb to be and left the Room. A signal from the teacher (there may be background music) students must stand up and walk through the center of the circle, a further sign of the teacher, students feel, again should the right to ask the Being and the left be. A variant, the teacher can take a chair, whenever students stand ....

Denying the answer: Students in a circle, ask your partner a question left to answer denying that the. For example: Are you a lawyer? No, I'm not a lawyer. The idea is that students can not lie. If this student is a lawyer should answer something like: No, not civil lawyer that do not work, but I'm a lawyer.

Well, the truth is that I could go on writing games, I think I will leave some for the next delivery. The games presented here are very simple games that can be adapted and applied to many issues. Also many variations can be made to the games. Just do not forget you also play teachers, students enjoy it more when the teacher shares her enjoyment and achievement.
