Ten things that you lose credibility as Web Designers
1) A hit counter
E 'of 1998? Why you need one? Many customers want a way to track their visitors, or how many unique visitors they have. Do them a favor and do not use a counter CGI or visible heat. The world uses the detection invisible now. Google Analytics is free and incredibly useful. Giving them access to this. Educate your customer if this is a problem. You are the web designers.
2) blacks wallpaper
Wallpaper blacks can be pulled out in reality only by professional designers. If you are one, great for you, otherwise, stick to white or a brighter color. And for God's sake, do not put dark text on a dark background. Use your common sense. Educate your customer if this is a problem. You are the web designers.
3) Background Music
If I want to listen to music, I have mine, and I have my own player. Visitors to a website are there for a reason. To find what you are looking for. Do not intrude on that. Your task is to make information available and present it in the most attractive. You're a web designer, not a DJ. If I'm listening to music while browsing, I do not want your stack. It 's very annoying. Educate your customer if this is a problem. You are the web designers.
4) JavaScript Pointless
Disable right mouse button has no purpose beyond annoying people and make you look unprofessional. Avoid unnecessary use of free JavaScript widget just for the heck of it. Scrolling text in the status bar. If you want to submit information on the page. Educate your customer if this is a problem. You are the web designers.
5) Spelling and grammar
How hard is it to run a spell check? We all make mistakes. We are human after all. Even the spelling mistakes. But chronic misspellings and poor grammar makes you look stupid.
6) and banner ads
By all means use them, but not too many / only if the site is established. CPM advertising can be a great way to make money, but renders every pixel screen space with banner ads and makes you look like you're only in it for the money. Maybe you are, but at least have some decent content to justify it. Adsense and other contextual advertising should help users. Remember that. Popups on landing pages just to annoy people.
7) Abuse of flashy graphics
If you want flashing lights and colored lights, Ill go to the disco. Once, twice or even three times and got my attention. Enough.
8) Flash Splash Pages
Is anyone really need to see the presentation graphics 3 minutes? Probably not. If you are trying to show, let a visitor choose if they want to see it. If you have to show an initial screen flash, at least give the possibility to skip it.
9) Ask users to join before viewing the content or forum
This really grinds my gears. If you have a forum or have useful content, show this. Do not make the members register to view it. Should only sign up to post / reply / contribution. Limit the display of content will drive visitors away in droves.
10) Browser Dependence
Dont make your site "Designed for Internet Explorer" or any other browser. Promote and cross browser compatible. Why should you or your client wants to exclude anyone? Use your brain. Educate your customer if this is a problem. You are the web designers .......
